The 3D TV market in India is not very old. It began taking new height gradually with the first entry of Samsung 3D TV in the last year. Thanks to Samsung that it ignited the dreaming-flame of the Indians to atleast make a future plan of purchasing a 3D TV. The excessive price of 3D TV is the major factor of its less selling figure, but compared to last year the number is going to become double. The global 3D TV market, according to a research firm IHS iSuppli, is expected to grow over 5-fold to account for 11 percent of flat-screen TV sales in this year. This is due to the continuous addition of new and innovative technological features by the TV manufacturers with gradual price dropping. The price of 3D TV fell 9% during March this year compared to February. According to a survey, over 25% of televisions sold will be 3D televisions in India by the end of 2012.
3D effect

Among all the brands having 3D TV in India since last year, Samsung seems to be serious in this category and is constantly coming up of 3D televisions over varied ranges of television such as LED, LCD and Plasma. Samsung has always been innovative in implementing the various technological features in its latest 3D TV models.

While looking at its rivals, you have to consider LG doing something really interesting these days. LG has just forayed into the retailing Cinema 3D TV in India. Although it is known as Cinema 3D TV, but LG has implemented all the features of its Smart TV into it. As far as 3D TV technology is concerned, LG Display has dedicatedly worked on its FPR (film-type patterned retarder) technology, its proprietary, and LG Electronics implemented the same in all its Cinema 3D TV models.

Samsung PS50C7000 50 inch model

Samsung Plasma 3D TV PS50C7000
The new Samsung PS50C7000 3D Plasma absolutely suits for fulfilling the purpose of home entertainment. There is no doubt that plasma is always a better performer when it comes to 3D. The aim of Samsung was to offer a close movie experience to its customers at home installing its features like 3D, Cinema Smooth 24p processing and SRS TruSurround HD. The picture quality is breathtaking and perfect for playing the 3D games. But it fails to offer a productive 2D to 3D simulation. This set has got Samsung’s network connectivity, widgets (such as games and weather reports), limited video content mainly youtube, facebook, twitter etc. To connect the TV to the internet, both wired and wireless capabilities have been deployed. To connect other equipments, two USB ports, four HDMI ports, an AV input and a VGA connector can be used. However, the ports are set at a deeper location in the back, so you need to lift the TV on its hinge for plugging anything inside. The best option for this is plugging a USB hard disk drive and making an ambience of PVR.

Most notable point is that Samsung PS50C7000 has a few limitations. The back levels of this model are disappointing compared to other leading plasma display and certainly Samsung’s LCD TVs. It’s also suffers from plasma burn-in which sometimes causes image retention. However, it gets backs into normal imaging with a few minutes.

LG PZ550 50 or 60 inch model

The newly introduced LG’s PZ550 is a Full HD 3D Plasma TV having lots of ground-breaking features for offering the viewers the opportunity in achieving entertainment experience of the next dimension. The LG Plasma 3D TV creates the most natural 3D motion pictures and its self light emitting technology permits rapid illumination by plasma cells, ensuring smooth flowing 3D images. LG 3D Plasma TV delivers an overwhelming delightful 3D viewing experience.

In LG’s PZ550, 2D to 3D content conversion is of high quality with the use of LG’s own conversion algorithm. The LG Plasma TV has gained widespread recognition for “The World’s Slimmest Bezel in Plasma TV.” The specific function of using thinner bezel is enhancing the viewing experience and allowing the viewer to focus more on the picture. The other salient features of LG Full HD 3D Plasma TV PZ550 are listed below:
  • Full HD (1920x1080)
  • Stylish design with slim bezel & depth (razor frame)
  • 16 bit color reproduction
  • 600 Hz Max Sub field driving
  • Smart energy saving
  • 3HDMI
  • USB2.0
  • DivX HD

New Generation 3D TV

With sparkling the opportunity of 3D TV in India and among Indians, the Samsung products have got so far good responses. But, had Samsung made some modification-cum-alternation in terms of technology, it would have ruled the 3D TV market in India. The major drawbacks, which the Samsung 3D TV users complain, are the uncomfortable use of its shutter glasses (SG) and, most importantly technical difficulties such as image flickering, crosstalk, slow response speed, limited brightness, color distortion with the change in viewing angle, etc are the striking hindrances for Samsung to go ahead with its 3D TV range.

However, LG Cinema 3D TV or Full HD 3D Plasma TV have no such fault as LG has adopted FPR 3D technology that gives superior response with flicker-free and crosstalk image. The response speed of FPR technology is four times higher than the conventional SG technology and the image is absolutely vivid with having no color distortion at any mean. There are other lots of technical advantages of using FPR technology implemented 3D TVs. Last year at a display event in Beijing FPR was declared as ‘the World’s Best Display Technology’. Hence, the 3D TVs having the firm base of FPR technology are taking the global ranking position of ‘new generation 3D TV’.
