According to the recent data released from California-based DisplaySearch, a global market research and consulting firm, Korea-based LG Display has once more recorded its maximum number of shipping of LED-backlit LCD TV panels in it first quarter of 2011. However, it is also reported that its competitor Samsung is in a full swing to touch the top shipping count of LG.
Research firm DisplaySearch is involved into tracking the shipment figure and making the future projection for LED LCD panels. It releases the report in its Quarterly Large-Area TFT LCD Shipment – Advanced LED Report. LG Display actually shipped over 4 million LCD TV units that are equipped with LED backlight technology. Despite having its top recorded figure in LED LCD TV panel shipping, LG’s market share actually fell down from 31% to 27% recorded during the final quarter of previous year.

Based on the reports released by DisplaySearch, Samsung remained the leader in terms of revenue for LED LCD television shipment done in the first quarter of 2011, the brand has augmented its market share from 27% to 30%. Now most of the HDTV manufacturers are pumping out majority of their financial outlays into edge-lit LED models. This proves that the slim edge-lit models of LED are getting more response. According to the report, penetration ratio of LED backlighting technology among LCD TV panels is highest for 50 inches or above screen sizes.
