None of the smart parents would like to spoil their kids entertainment whilst neither their health. So what they can do to balance it? They can do smart things so that their kids can live up with the today’s pace.

Therefore, it appears that Dolby Laboratories does understand this notion quite clearly. For this reason, the company has launched a new 3D glass that is especially designed for kid’s comfortableness. These 3D glasses are not only kids- friendly but actually, they are quite reasonable in terms of price. Just because it is low at price, it does not mean that one has to compromise on the quality of the 3D glasses at all. The quality of the glasses meets the premium standard requirements, so that kids do not face any bad experience during their viewing of the content.

3D Dolby Glasses

The green- colored high performing 3D glasses consists of sensors and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags to view the 3D content. Moreover, there is no hassle of charging and of the batteries in Dolby 3D glasses. Also, these are eco- friendly passive glasses designed for kids, so that it does not hurt their eyes unlike SG (Shutter Glass) 3D glasses.

It has already arrived in the market for the movie ‘Cars 2’. As the passive 3D technology is taking over the entertainment arena, SG will have no choice than to give path to FPR (Film-type Patterned Retarder). Even the Dolby Labs knows which 3D technology will actually stay here. It is propagated that these Dolby 3D glasses can also be used for 3D home TV employed with FPR technology. As for today, LG has a monopoly of FPR 3D TV in India, as other brands such as Samsung and Sony uses SG technology.

No one likes to spoil kid’s entertainment, so even if they watch 3D TV for a long duration, it is only FPR due to which the kids would not feel nausea and headaches. Also, it offers sharp pictures and a smooth 3D experience, as it has a wide viewing angle facility to view your favorite flicks from any angle without any trouble of colour wash. LG 3D TV has various functions that will save energy, making the television eco friendly. This TV is perfect for gaming purposes even and this will be an add on zing for the kids, apart from an immersive 3D experience.

New 3D TV service launched in Japan by Nintendo 3DS

It seems Japan has enormous potential and future of 3D TV business with the declaration of Nintendo that it will soon come up with its new 3D TV service in association with Japanese TV networks Fuji Television and Nippon Television. The new service known as ‘Itsu no Ma ni Terebi’ will come in the form of an application that is downloadable for free via the eShop.

‘Itsu no Ma ni Terebi’ has similar naming to Japanese spot pass service. Since, Nintendo has not yet announced an English name for this service, the name ‘Spot TV’ is so far declared unofficially.

Spot TV uses SpotPass to automatically download new 3D television content to Nintendo 3DS. Although the content is free, it is offered with advertisements and will feature original programming from Fuji TV and Nippon TV.

The initial lineup of TV shows includes drama, documentary and sport. Fuji TV has a plan to expand the list of available shows in the near future. However, Nintendo is yet to give the confirmation about the date of commencement of its service in Europe, following deals with Sky and Aardman Animation. One has to keep 3DS system’s Spot pass feature turned on in order to get daily updates from the Spot TV service.

“Half of the 11 mn 3D-ready TV sets will be ‘active and regular’ users of 3D content…” – report released

Informa Telecoms & Media has released a report stating its prediction that less than half of the 11 million 3D-ready TV sets will be ‘active and regular’ users of 3D content by 2016, in spite of major investment on the part of local broadcasters.

According to Adam Thomas, Senior Analyst and Author of Global 3D TV Forecasts, “3DTV has the backing of the major UK broadcasters like Sky and Virgin, and most recently the BBC announced its plans to show the Wimbledon final in 3D for the first time. However, despite this, public reaction has been mixed—due to both a lack of content and a simple failure of the public to engage with what is, essentially, a new type of viewing experience.”
3D effect

Based on the report of Informa, early adopters have always been more appropriate in seeking 3D content and in 2010 around 90% of homes with 3D-ready sets were ‘active’ users. However, with the alternation of this process and 3D becomes an inbuilt ‘default’ technology in the sets, more people will be accessible and accustomed to the concept of 3D viewing. This would surely result to the decline of ‘active’ percentage.

It is reported that the TV manufacturers will go on using 3D as a way of selling consumers on future-proof sets. Adam Thomas said, “Irrespective of existing public demand for 3D, major set manufacturers, such as LG, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic, increasingly see 3D capability as a feature that they must include in their sets, or the perception will be that rival manufacturers are producing a technically-superior product (with 3D included). The result is that an increasing proportion of TV sets are having 3D capability built into them. But instead of a USP (unique selling proposition), 3D is now often marketed as just one of the set’s benefits—along with features such as Internet-connection capability and LED backlighting.”

Thomas concludes, “We do not share the view that 3D represents the obvious next evolutionary step for TV, in the same way that color followed black and white, or HD is following SD. A case can be made that color and HD offer noticeable enhancements to the technologies that preceded them. But 3DTV is less of an enhancement and rather more a new type of viewing experience—one that many people will enjoy, but some way from becoming ubiquitous.”

LG Electronics targets Japan for its 3D TV biz

Having a rapid global expansion plan, after penetrating Africa and Middle East LG Electronics is now the targeting to crack the Japanese market. Seoul-headquartered LG Electronics held an event for declaring its first launch of Cinema 3D TV on 15th June, where the brand declared its expansion plan.

LG Electronics has re-entered the Japanese market in November 2010 with its LED TVs. it is intending to step up its offensive there with the whole new type of TVs in a bid to turn itself into a world-class TV manufacturer in the truest meaning of the word.
LG Cinema 3D TV

Japan has been home to A-list TV makers, which have swept global markets for decades. Non-Japanese companies have found it very hard to break the entry barrier for long. For example, Samsung and LG Electronics’ market shares there are at 0% and 0.1% each, though they are the no.1 and no.2 TV makers of the world.

At present, LG is the leading TV set supplier in Latin America with the market share of 25.1% and ranks second in the Middle East, North America, Europe and Africa. It has long left behind its Japanese rivals like Sony, Sharp and Panasonic.

LG electronics has recently launched those 3D laptops, monitors, projectors and so on constituting its Cinema 3D lineup, as well as the 3D TVs, in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Its plan is to repeat the highly successful marketing activities in Japan to win over its customers.

With its globally popular LED and 3D TV products, LG is aiming to raise its market share in Japan to at least 10% within three years from now. “Japan is the world’s second-largest TV market following the United States and, as such, it is no cakewalk to satisfy the customers,” said Lee Gyu-hong, vice president of LG Electronics’ local subsidiary there. He added, “It means that our success in this market is not an option but a necessity.”

LG has come up with its ‘top-notch 3D strategy’ with an aim to connect all the 3D devices that is 3D smart phones, 3D TVs and 3D laptops. It is likely that interconnection of the best 3D devices will make LG Electronics the ‘king of 3D makers’. LG is referred to as one of the leading TV manufacturers that has already made its position in the market with the advanced FPR 3D technology and now with LG’s strategy to link all 3D devices will make its presence omnipresent.

The FPR (Film-type Patterned Retarder) 3D TV launched by LG has already become the talk of the nation. It cannot be counted as another TV showcased in the electronics store, as it has myriad of unique features to keep you entertained unlike other televisions. This FPR technology has comfortable 3D glasses, conversion of content from 2D to 3D is simple and no image overlapping of the visuals. In addition, it will not give you any kind of eye pain and headaches.

However, yes, that’s true that there is not enough 3D content as of yet, but as it is mushrooming rapidly, it will be ubiquitous soon. The new 3D concepts and interworking services will give the user the best of 3D technology. For instance, 3D movie clip sharing it on a 3D mobile phone.

Many companies have already taken an initiative to turn green such as Marks & Spencer, Dell, IBM and now, LG has started following their footprints to save planet. Undoubtedly, it is one of the leading television companies that have started manufacturing LCDs, LEDs and 3D TVs, with a vision to save energy.

LG goes Green
LG does manufacture green products since, it has earned green certification i.e. EU Eco-label, after meeting the standards of the ‘European Union’ The LED displays of LG are more energy efficient, if compared to other television backlight units. It has an ability to control the screen’s brightness. Another fantastic green feature is ‘Standby Mode Zero’ that consumes zero electricity after going into power saving mode.

Moreover, there is ‘Spot control energy saving’ that has the power of maintaining the dimness level of the pixels, as it saves energy to the maximum level. Also, it has an ‘Intelligent Sensor’ that adjusts the picture, according to the lighting conditions.

Therefore, all the green lovers, LG has given another opportunity to do something for ‘Our Earth’, so you can buy the latest 3D TV, which is eco friendly and has the latest technology in it i.e. IPS (In- Plane Switching) panel. Further, IPS panel provides wide viewing, vivid visuals and fast response rate. So, now you know, just by going green you are not compromising on the quality and price as well.

3D Glasses: Boon or Bane

With the advent of 3D TV, the whole viewing concept has taken a different direction. All thanks to the polarized 3D glasses, that has revolutionized the viewing experience. It is 3D glasses that make the 3D illusion since, it confines the light which reaches human eye. You would have been hearing about 3D for ages but the content has picked up recently.

It would not be an overestimation to say that 3D technologies are impeccable as, Avatar is an apt example to judge. However, there are some drawbacks of 3D glasses that a watcher must have noticed it, such as dimness of the image and difficulty in viewing with a tilted head causing color change and ghosting as well. 3D watchers also suffer from headaches, eye pain and nausea.

Fortunately, there is an array of 3D glasses available today, depending on the technology. The first one is Shutter Glass technology used by Samsung 3D TV. This technology’s 3D glasses are troublesome to watch for long duration since, it requires batteries to operate, making the glasses heavy. Another technology is FPR (Film Patterned Retarder), which has wide-angle view ability (even in a laid-back position). Moreover, as FPR do not need batteries hence, its 3D glasses are lightweight, making the viewing experience comfortable than ever.

To conclude, it is significant to understand the pros and cons of each advanced technology present, before you think to buy 3D TV and glasses.you think to buy 3D TV and glasses.

Electronics market is booming with an array of 3D products. Recently, Vienna University of Technology has developed the smallest printer, which is not only small and light but even cheap, as compared to other 3D printers. It will not only help to enhance the 3D content but is helpful for printing out customized 3D objects at home. Now with great 3D softwares and printers, the user will be able to provide in depth view of the object such as building.

Undoubtedly, 3D content is extending its realm everywhere and with the 3D TV market, picking up it is likely that it is here to stay. A plethora of 3D TV is showcased for the prospective customers to choose from according to size, price and features. There has been an ongoing problem with the viewers, as their eyes pain, feels nausea and headaches after watching 3D content. But, with the fantastic technology employed in 3D TV all the aforementioned problems are resolved. The technology is referred as ‘Film Patterned Retarder’ (FPR) which runs battery less, offers ultimate brightness and has wide viewing flexibility as well. Moreover, converting of 2D to 3D, streaming of online content, storing movies & photos and many more other features are available on 3D TV. The 3D glasses weigh only 16 gms and also come in a party box (pack of 5).

It appears that it is time for us to have 3D electronics at home since, everyone likes to walk with the latest trends.

Here it comes, a 3D body scanner for all the fashionable women in town, as it has an ability to identify an ideal pair of jeans, size and style. It is 10 ft tall machine and is available at Manchester’s shopping mall. As of now, one of the leading London fashion chains Peacock is testing the machine and it is likely that other high street fashion brands would be following soon. After scanning the body from 16 angles for measurement, the machine creates the customer’s body shape swiftly. With this 3D body scanner, finding the right pair of jeans will not be a tedious job, anymore.

It is not only fashion industry where 3D has taken a revolution rather it is widening in every sector esp. the electronics market. Various leading television brands such as Samsung, Panasonic, and LG have unveiled 3D TVs to give world, a 3D experience at home. As it is a tough job to choose an apt TV for yourself hence, it is always recommended to go for the best technology, which has an assurance to give you the best output.

Thus, there are two types of technology available for 3D TV – Shutter Glass (SG) and FPR technology. SG technology is used by many eminent television brands such as Samsung & Panasonic. This technology removes the problem of ghosting and runs with the help of batteries.

It is fixed in 3D glasses that make the frame heavy and viewing for long hours, difficult. Another one is FPR technology, which has battery free glasses that weighs just half, if compared to the conventional SG technology glasses. Moreover, since, the battery is not attached to the 3D glasses therefore, no harmful radiations can affect your health. This technology is only used by LG 3D TV and is the first one to be a certified flicker free 3D TV in the world.

Thinking to buy best TV

After a tiring week at workstation, all I could think of, is to be a couch potato so that I can catch up with my favorite series especially Gossip Girl, How I Met Your Mother and many more. However, since I am almost hooked to my laptop at office, my eyes gets tired often and it demands rest on weekends, making me miss my TV shows. Consequently, I blamed my idiot box since, I realized that it was creating my television experience tiresome.

So I made a decision to buy a new TV, but did not realize that buying it would become a tedious job. I was very puzzled, after seeing a plethora of TV units at the store and the grumpy salesman could not convince me for a particular LCD. So finally, an idea cropped my mind that jotting down the features would help me to understand that which is the best TV to buy. And, I am sure that there are other people as well, who would have struck up in the same position like me.

To start with, I had shortlisted few TV models according to picture quality, features and value for money of different brands such as Sony, Panasonic, LG and Samsung. But suddenly, it just clicked my mind that in this technology era, it is important to understand about TV technology too, for a long life of the electronic device (after all we are paying the hard earned money). too, for a long life of the electronic device (after all we are paying the hard earned money).

Since I live alone in an apartment, hence, television is the only source of entertainment I have and therefore, I went next day with a prepared mind to buy the TV. This time I had a clear picture in my mind that what I want to purchase - a TV that solves my eye pain issues mainly.

All prepared I entered the electronic store with a vivid picture in my mind for my TV. After looking at all the TV displayed, I finally had to tell them about my old TV problems and how it hurts my eye and gives me eye pain as well. With a warm smile the sales representative took me to the LG section and the first question, which popped, was “Why LG?” and he answered “Because it has FPR”. And I felt so ignorant that I am not aware of this technology at all and then he explained me about the conventional Shutter Glass (SG) and FPR.

So for all of you, who are out there planning to buy a TV, should be aware of this technologies because longevity of the television set does matter. To start with, shutter glass technology runs with battery, eradicates the problem of ghosting i.e. copy of the transmitted visual, and is inexpensive too. The second one is FPR, which makes the LCD, LED and 3D TV flicker free, high brightness level, and a high response rate. With this technology, I will not feel nausea, eye pain and headaches. Then, I ultimately felt that ‘yes it is FPR technology which will make my viewing experience worthwhile’.

LG in the forefront in the shipment of LED LCD TV panel, Samsung just behind it

According to the recent data released from California-based DisplaySearch, a global market research and consulting firm, Korea-based LG Display has once more recorded its maximum number of shipping of LED-backlit LCD TV panels in it first quarter of 2011. However, it is also reported that its competitor Samsung is in a full swing to touch the top shipping count of LG.

Research firm DisplaySearch is involved into tracking the shipment figure and making the future projection for LED LCD panels. It releases the report in its Quarterly Large-Area TFT LCD Shipment – Advanced LED Report. LG Display actually shipped over 4 million LCD TV units that are equipped with LED backlight technology. Despite having its top recorded figure in LED LCD TV panel shipping, LG’s market share actually fell down from 31% to 27% recorded during the final quarter of previous year.

LED LCD TV

Based on the reports released by DisplaySearch, Samsung remained the leader in terms of revenue for LED LCD television shipment done in the first quarter of 2011, the brand has augmented its market share from 27% to 30%. Now most of the HDTV manufacturers are pumping out majority of their financial outlays into edge-lit LED models. This proves that the slim edge-lit models of LED are getting more response. According to the report, penetration ratio of LED backlighting technology among LCD TV panels is highest for 50 inches or above screen sizes.

Passive 3D TV shipments to surpass active 3DTV by 2015: IHS iSuppli reports

0 comments, Posted by Akshay Kumar Thursday, May 12, 2011 6:37 AM ,

The growing war of words between active and passive shutter glasses’ users, mainly between the Samsung and LG hailing from the same hometown, is taking a new shore opening a winning dais for the latter Korean brand. Active shutter glass technology got majority of its clicks with its starting deployment by Samsung and successively by Sony and Panasonic later, which is now under threat when LG Display declared the leading advantages of using passive shutter glasses and got the proprietary of film-type patterned retarder (FPR) technology last year.

Active shutter glasses

So far the market has been ruled by active shutter glasses resulting Samsung, among all other 3D TV brands (like Sony and Panasonic) using the same technology, running the monopoly in the 3D TV market. But when Cinema 3D TV was claimed by LG offers more comfortable tri-dimensional viewing experience that is completely appropriate to endow with a full entertainment for the large families, the dominion of Samsung started declining that also resulted to reduction in customer response of Sony and Panasonic.

A global research firm California-headquartered IHS iSuppli recently conducted a study titled “Can 3D feature increase a TV’s appeal to consumers?” Based on its report, as IHS iSuppli stated, global shipments of passive 3D TV displays will overtake active 3D TV sales by 2015. It also said that though 3D eyewear is obligatory these days but this is one of the other factors that puts the consumers off purchasing a 3D TV.

LG FPR 3D glass
IHS iSuppli also said to the media persons that with the gradual fall in the 3D TV price and rapid increase in the availability of 3D content, the sale of 3D TV will upsurge enormously this year, also thanks LG Display for penetrating the latest FPR technology in the global market. The global 3D TV market has witnessed a price fall of 9% recorded in March 2011 just within a period of one month. Whereas on the programming front, more than 80 sources consisting of live 3D broadcast and pay TV channels had been launched at the ending period of the last year and more in queue for this year. This is a positive score going straight to the 3D TV shipments of 159 million units by the end of 2015 from 23 million units in 2011.

Samsung & LG are in combat to achieve the honor of New Generation 3D TV

The 3D TV market in India is not very old. It began taking new height gradually with the first entry of Samsung 3D TV in the last year. Thanks to Samsung that it ignited the dreaming-flame of the Indians to atleast make a future plan of purchasing a 3D TV. The excessive price of 3D TV is the major factor of its less selling figure, but compared to last year the number is going to become double. The global 3D TV market, according to a research firm IHS iSuppli, is expected to grow over 5-fold to account for 11 percent of flat-screen TV sales in this year. This is due to the continuous addition of new and innovative technological features by the TV manufacturers with gradual price dropping. The price of 3D TV fell 9% during March this year compared to February. According to a survey, over 25% of televisions sold will be 3D televisions in India by the end of 2012.
3D effect

Among all the brands having 3D TV in India since last year, Samsung seems to be serious in this category and is constantly coming up of 3D televisions over varied ranges of television such as LED, LCD and Plasma. Samsung has always been innovative in implementing the various technological features in its latest 3D TV models.

While looking at its rivals, you have to consider LG doing something really interesting these days. LG has just forayed into the retailing Cinema 3D TV in India. Although it is known as Cinema 3D TV, but LG has implemented all the features of its Smart TV into it. As far as 3D TV technology is concerned, LG Display has dedicatedly worked on its FPR (film-type patterned retarder) technology, its proprietary, and LG Electronics implemented the same in all its Cinema 3D TV models.

Samsung PS50C7000 50 inch model

Samsung Plasma 3D TV PS50C7000
The new Samsung PS50C7000 3D Plasma absolutely suits for fulfilling the purpose of home entertainment. There is no doubt that plasma is always a better performer when it comes to 3D. The aim of Samsung was to offer a close movie experience to its customers at home installing its features like 3D, Cinema Smooth 24p processing and SRS TruSurround HD. The picture quality is breathtaking and perfect for playing the 3D games. But it fails to offer a productive 2D to 3D simulation. This set has got Samsung’s network connectivity, widgets (such as games and weather reports), limited video content mainly youtube, facebook, twitter etc. To connect the TV to the internet, both wired and wireless capabilities have been deployed. To connect other equipments, two USB ports, four HDMI ports, an AV input and a VGA connector can be used. However, the ports are set at a deeper location in the back, so you need to lift the TV on its hinge for plugging anything inside. The best option for this is plugging a USB hard disk drive and making an ambience of PVR.

Most notable point is that Samsung PS50C7000 has a few limitations. The back levels of this model are disappointing compared to other leading plasma display and certainly Samsung’s LCD TVs. It’s also suffers from plasma burn-in which sometimes causes image retention. However, it gets backs into normal imaging with a few minutes.

LG PZ550 50 or 60 inch model

The newly introduced LG’s PZ550 is a Full HD 3D Plasma TV having lots of ground-breaking features for offering the viewers the opportunity in achieving entertainment experience of the next dimension. The LG Plasma 3D TV creates the most natural 3D motion pictures and its self light emitting technology permits rapid illumination by plasma cells, ensuring smooth flowing 3D images. LG 3D Plasma TV delivers an overwhelming delightful 3D viewing experience.

LG Full 3D Plasma TV - PZ550
In LG’s PZ550, 2D to 3D content conversion is of high quality with the use of LG’s own conversion algorithm. The LG Plasma TV has gained widespread recognition for “The World’s Slimmest Bezel in Plasma TV.” The specific function of using thinner bezel is enhancing the viewing experience and allowing the viewer to focus more on the picture. The other salient features of LG Full HD 3D Plasma TV PZ550 are listed below:
  • Full HD (1920x1080)
  • Stylish design with slim bezel & depth (razor frame)
  • 16 bit color reproduction
  • 600 Hz Max Sub field driving
  • Smart energy saving
  • 3HDMI
  • USB2.0
  • DivX HD

New Generation 3D TV

With sparkling the opportunity of 3D TV in India and among Indians, the Samsung products have got so far good responses. But, had Samsung made some modification-cum-alternation in terms of technology, it would have ruled the 3D TV market in India. The major drawbacks, which the Samsung 3D TV users complain, are the uncomfortable use of its shutter glasses (SG) and, most importantly technical difficulties such as image flickering, crosstalk, slow response speed, limited brightness, color distortion with the change in viewing angle, etc are the striking hindrances for Samsung to go ahead with its 3D TV range.

However, LG Cinema 3D TV or Full HD 3D Plasma TV have no such fault as LG has adopted FPR 3D technology that gives superior response with flicker-free and crosstalk image. The response speed of FPR technology is four times higher than the conventional SG technology and the image is absolutely vivid with having no color distortion at any mean. There are other lots of technical advantages of using FPR technology implemented 3D TVs. Last year at a display event in Beijing FPR was declared as ‘the World’s Best Display Technology’. Hence, the 3D TVs having the firm base of FPR technology are taking the global ranking position of ‘new generation 3D TV’.

LG holds the top market share in the global market of LED monitors

1 comments, Posted by Akshay Kumar Friday, May 6, 2011 5:40 AM ,
According to the recent survey report of global market research firm Display Search, LG Electronics has announced that it has become the ‘world market leader’ in LED and LCD monitors in 2010-11 with an 18% market share. This accounts 2.92 million of total 16.68 million LED and LCD monitors sold across the world.
LG LED Monitor

The share of LED monitor market from just 1% in 2009 has jumped to 10% last year. At a prior stage LG understood the potential of increasing the market share of LED monitors, as a result LG was absolutely prepared for the ‘demand shift’ from LCD to LED TV monitors and accordingly strategized its quality and quantity of LED TV monitor production. LG has pumped out a mammoth figure of investment last year in growing its LED LCD monitor business. Though television is an essential asset for everyone, but since childhood we have defined it as an idiot box, sometimes extremely or at times sarcastically. Now probably, like earlier days, calling a TV set an idiot box is relevant for the parents when their children undergo the terrible period of school examination. But with the changing lifestyle of Indian consumers this idiot box is rapidly becoming an essential part of home décor. So, if the television categories like LED, LCD and Plasma are not adequate to be the parts of your home décor, Smart TV can be the exact solution for this.

We usually call Smart TV our 2nd generation Internet Apps Interface. Understanding a Smart TV and finding out its basic differences from the other categories of TV product is mandatory. Smart TV is sometimes referred to as Connected TV. This term (Connected TV) is used to describe the ongoing trend of integration of internet into modern television sets and set-top boxes. The fundamental feature of a Smart TV is converging the technologies of computer and television set together. This is one of the best gadgets to make yourself a viewer-cum-user by simultaneously searching and enjoying movies, photos, videos and other contents on the web, using a local TV channel or satellite channel and internet.

LG Smart TV applications

The concept of Smart TV is new in India. Not so many brands have brought their Smart TV models so far except a few. Only LG and Samsung have so far introduced their Smart TVs in India last month. However, the Bravia range of Sony is boasted with internet capabilities with integrated wi-fi. Viera Connect of Panasonic already launched in India have the internet usage facility for social networking, cloud computing and gaming. But we can’t consider the products of Sony and Panasonic complete Smart TVs as they lack the other remarkable feature of this television category.

In this blog I will highlight the features of LG Smart TV as it is unique in terms of its features and technological offerings. Smart TV is still called Netcast as in previous years; however, LG has included some extra features that the earlier versions of Netcast didn’t include. The Smart TV of LG can be termed ‘Netcast plus’ as it has the ability to download additional applications from LG app store. Specially for the Smart TV users, LG had tied-up with Zapak, Indiatimes and Hungama – the Indian content providers for fulfilling the requirement of local Indian content. As the content is the key differentiating factors of the Smart TV consumers, LG has provided an excellent mix of both global and Indian specific contents.

Various features & applications of LG Smart TV

The functionality of Smart TV is available on select LG TVs, BD Players and Home Theatre in a box system. It is also available as a separate platform known as Smart TV Upgrader (ST600). It is a small box which adds LG Smart TV functionality to any TV with HDMI input. The functionalities and applications of Smart TV are different based on the platform. The main features of LG Smart TV system are ‘premium apps’ (pre-installed applications like Facebook, Netfix, Vudu, Twitter, etc), ‘my apps’ (the applications for downloading LG TV App Store www.lgtvapp.com), ‘smart share’ (a media player that allows to play media files from a USB drive of DLNA server). The total 14 SKUs (stock keeping units) from 32 – 55” are available now whose price ranges from Rs. 43,000 – Rs. 1.7 lakhs.
